Power boating skills course set for June 6 & 7

OREGON, OH (Press Release) - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft is conducting a new Power Boating Basics Course that provides novice and untrained boaters the basic skills needed to properly and safely operate a power boat. The 8-hour course is open to the public and being offered June 6 and 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cullen Park, 4526 N. Summit St. Toledo, Ohio 43611.

North Toledo fire stations get updated, rebuilt

Fire Station 3 will be renovated and reopened.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now)- Toledo City Council has approved special use permits for
the city to renovate and reopen Fire Station 3, and to build a new Fire Station
12 at Blair Park, both in north Toledo.

Council has earmarked $4.8 million for both projects.
Station 3 at Erie and Bush will receive a new bay for housing fire engines, as
well as rehab work to the historic portion of the fire house. Station 12 will
be a completely new facility.

Chief Luis Santiago says the goal is providing better
coverage for people in north Toledo and improving the fire service overall.

Next phase of redevelopment under way at Overland Industrial Park

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now)- The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and other local officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for the construction of a new 1,500-foot roadway and utilities at Overland Industrial Park, formerly known as the Jeep site in north Toledo.

The ceremony commemorated the next phase of redevelopment, which will prepare the site for vertical construction this summer.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Unemployment in Lucas County fell again in April, hitting 7.8 percent. That number is down from the 8.5 percent reported in March, and the 8.0 percent reported in April of 2012.

TOLEDO, OH (Press Release) - The Lucas County Dog Warden will participate with Doggone Safe in the International Dog Bite Prevention Challenge.  It challenges its presenters to visit schools and educate 50,000 children about dog safety in a single month.  The Challenge will occur during Dog Bite Prevention Week (May 20-26, 2012).  So far 57 presenters have pledged to educate over 18,000 kids in eight countries, five Canadian provinces and twenty four US states.

TOLEDO, OH (Press Release) - The UpTown Association’s recently announced signature park project has been officially named UpTown Green.

“The new name embodies what the sustainable park project is all about,” said Julie Champa, Executive Director of The UpTown Association. “The name was selected by the Association’s Board of Directors because of the two-fold meaning of the word “green,” first as an open park space and second as a national movement in sustainability.”

Gunshots, screeching tires heard in north Toledo shooting

Police and EMS respond to shooting

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now)- A man was taken to the hospital by Life Squad after a shooting in north Toledo.

Neighbors tell WTOL 11, they heard gunshots fired early Saturday morning on Glenwood Avenue. The shots were followed by the sound of screeching tires.

Police are investigating the incident.

The victim's name and current medical condition are unknown at this time.
